Privacy & data use
How we handle your data.
Last updated: June 2026
Draft for review. This is a working draft, shared for transparency while CRWD is in its waitlist phase. It will be reviewed by a qualified data-protection adviser before we open the platform. It explains, in plain English, how we handle personal data under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
CRWD (“we”, “us”, “our”) is building a UK platform that connects everyday content creators with brands, and that pays creators fairly. This notice covers the personal data we collect through our website and waitlist, why we collect it, and the rights you have over it.
We are the data controller for the information described here. Our registered company name, number, and address will be confirmed before launch and added to this notice. You can contact us about anything below, including to exercise your rights, at hello@jointhecrwd.co.uk.
1. The information we collect
When you join the waitlist, we collect:
- Your email address.
- Your name, if you choose to give it.
- Whether you are joining as a creator or as a brand.
- If you are a creator: your content niche and any link to your work or socials you choose to share.
- If you are a brand: your company name, website, and category, where provided.
- Your UK region and how you heard about us, if you provide them.
- The date and time you signed up.
You can also choose to share two optional pieces of information about yourself: your ethnicity and your gender. These are only collected if you tick the optional box, and we treat them as special category data (see section 3).
We do not buy personal data about you from other companies, and this site uses no advertising or analytics cookies.
2. How and why we use your information
We use your information for the following purposes:
- To contact you about early access to CRWD and, if you have asked us to, to send occasional updates about the launch. Lawful basis: your consent.
- To understand demand and plan our launch responsibly, for example how many creators and brands are interested and in which regions. Lawful basis: our legitimate interests in building the product.
- To check we are building a genuinely representative community, by looking at the diversity of people interested, only ever in aggregate. Lawful basis: your explicit consent for the optional ethnicity and gender information.
We do not make automated decisions about you, and we will never use the optional diversity information to decide who is offered work or access.
3. Optional diversity information (special category data)
CRWD exists to help close a documented pay gap that affects creators of colour. To make sure we are building for a genuinely representative community, we ask two optional questions about ethnicity and gender. We handle that information carefully:
- Answering is completely optional. You can skip these questions and still join.
- We only store this information if you give explicit consent by ticking the box.
- We use it only in aggregate, for example “this share of our waitlist are creators of colour”, never to identify you or make decisions about you.
- It is kept separate from the operational data we use to run the waitlist.
- You can withdraw your consent and ask us to delete it at any time by emailing hello@jointhecrwd.co.uk.
4. Who we share your information with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the trusted service providers that help us run CRWD, who process it on our instructions:
- Supabase, our database and hosting provider, which stores waitlist information in the UK and EU region.
- Vercel, which hosts and serves this website.
- Google Workspace, which we use for email.
Some providers may process data outside the UK. Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or an adequacy decision.
5. How long we keep your information
We keep waitlist information until we launch and have invited you to the platform, plus a reasonable period afterwards, or until you ask us to delete it, whichever comes first. If you ask to be removed, we will delete your details promptly. Optional diversity information is deleted as soon as you withdraw consent.
6. Cookies and local storage
We do not use advertising or analytics cookies. The site stores one small flag in your browser's session storage so the opening animation does not replay during your visit. It stays on your device and is not shared with us or anyone else.
7. How we protect your information
Waitlist data is encrypted in transit and protected by database access controls. The public website can add a signup but cannot read the stored data, including any optional diversity information. We limit access to the people who need it to run CRWD.
8. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct it if it is wrong or incomplete.
- Ask us to delete it.
- Ask us to restrict or object to how we use it.
- Ask for a copy in a portable format.
- Withdraw your consent at any time, which does not affect processing we carried out before you withdrew.
To exercise any of these, email hello@jointhecrwd.co.uk and we will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
9. Children
The CRWD waitlist is intended for people aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16. If you believe a child has given us their details, contact us and we will delete them.
10. Changes to this notice
We may update this notice as CRWD develops, for example when we confirm our legal entity or add new features. We will post any changes on this page and update the date shown above.
